003 - Questions

You gasp softly, blinking, confused. Strangely, you know what she said to be true, that you aren't of this world, yet you don't understand why you know this.

She continues speaking, after gauging your reaction. “A lost soul, perhaps? Taken in by one of the deities, perhaps?” She muses to herself, then shakes her head, focusing on you again. “When did you wake up?” She asks you directly.

You remain quiet for a while, but then answer. “N-not long ago… the s-sun was below the horizon…” Your voice is a bit shaky, though strangely you're calming down not of your own volition… which should probably freak you out more, but doesn't.

“Ah, so not long ago. Do you remember anything from before? Anything at all?” She asks you, flicking a tail to her right. It feels like she's staring into your soul… which might actually be true for all you know.

You do your best to focus and try to remember anything from before… only to find a void, a lack of any memories. “N-no…” You say softly, a bit concerned for yourself.

“Mm… as I thought. The guardian of the nearby shrine taught me about lost souls, ones brought here by the deities. They come here with no memories, and a basic comprehension of whatever language they appear in.” She pauses, watching your confused reaction. “I know I probably shouldn't be asking this so soon, but may I take you in?” She asks. “To live with me, at least until you decide what you want to do with your life.”

You sigh softly, trying to think. You don't have any reason *not* to accept, but at the same time you don't know her at all… you don't know *anyone*. However, you could probably learn quite a bit from her, here, if you chose to stay. You don't really understand your own purpose yet, so just nod meekly. “O-okay…”

She smiles warmly. “I'm Nisaya Olres, the leader of this village.” She introduces herself a bit more formally. “If… it's alright with you, may I give you a name?”

Her question takes you back a little, and leaves you in thought once more. After a long moment, you once again nod softly. “Y-yes… please.” You'll need a name eventually anyways, might as well let her give you one.

She examines you again, remaining in thought. After a good minute or two, she speaks up again. “Lisra?” She asks for your opinion.

You consider it for a while. “How… common is a name like that?” You ask her, the question catching her off-guard a little.

“Common? Well… it's certainly not rare. You'll see at least ten in a larger town, probably.” She shrugs. “But there are none I know with that name.”

You nod again. “It'll… it'll be fine.” You say softly, trying to internalize the name as well.

She smiles, clapping her hands together gently. “So, Lisra… are you hungry?” She asks.

Your stomach grumbles at the perfect moment, and you look down a bit in embarrassment. “Y-yes…”

She giggles, getting up and heading to the kitchen quarter of the room, starting to prepare something simple. “Do you have any questions? I don't think I have any for you yet.”

You think for a bit. There are definitely a few immediate questions, and you start off with probably the most important one. “What am I?”

She smiles. “Like me and almost everyone in this village, you are a kitsune. A human, or in your case elf, with fox features. Kitsune are an agile and magically very proficient race. As a single-tailed kitsune, your journey is only just beginning, and your powers still indeterminate. We could head to a town nearby and get your magic measured, though.” Her explanation's pretty clear, although you're a bit confused still.

“… Magic?” You ask, tilting your head a bit.

She giggles and smiles, as her tail flicks. A small flickering flame forms in the air. “Magic.” It grows into an orb, and then vanishes. “Well, it can do a lot more, but in the house it's not really safe to do much.”

You gasp when the flame forms, watching in awe. It feels weird.

She glances back, smiling a little at your reaction. “I'll teach you, Lisra.” She turns back to the food, at the same time telekinetically grabbing two plates, moving the food onto them. “But first, we eat breakfast.”
